TAYLOR SWIFT IS RED-FACED
- . . . “I’m 22. I’m all over the place, so my record (new album “Red”) is all over the place.”
- . . . An advertising blitz.
- . . . That’s an understatement.
- . . . She’s carrying out the red theme exhaustively.
- . . . The song selection on the back of the CD are on a red background.
- . . . Her lips are fire engine red and she’s made up like a porceline kewpie doll.
- . . . She wears solid red dresses and red polka blouses.
- . . . A red bowtie.
- . . . A red coat.
- . . . She even wore a red bandana in the recording studio.
- . . . She’s red, red, red. (Red Red Wine – UB40, on A&M Records, 1983. Neil Diamond wrote it.)
- . . . She’s red on the CMA’s (Country Music Association Awards) and every other TV show imaginable.
- . . . On the cover of Billboard magazine which describes the promotion as a“bevy of branding mega-deals.”
- . . . Papa John’s even in on the deal and is featuring a “large one-topping pizza with a ‘Red’ CD deal for $22.
- . . . It’s overkill.
- OPRAH WINFREY IS “KEEPING THE CONVERSATION GOING.”
- . . . (An overused social media term)
- . . . In a new deal with the Huffington Post she spouts her philosophy about personal inspiration and lifestyle advice in a new website section called HuffPostOWN, the OWN being the Oprah Winfrey (TV) Network.
- . . . She blogged about it.
- . . . She wants people to realize that “we are all more powerful than we know – that we are all connected to something bigger than ourselves.”
- . . . “Connected.” Like everything today in this Internet age.
- . . . I say let’s disconnect; let’s disassociate; let’s be anti-social.”
- . . . Tina Fey tweeted about keeping the conversation going concerning Hurricane Sandy. She encouraged everybody to tweet and retweet at #Sandy.
- Hanalie, dog in the neighborhood, fell down a couple of steps racing to bark at the mailman the other day. Owner Sally took the pooch to the vet. She got bruised – Hanalie, that is. Nothing broken.
- HOW TRUE. “The polls are like nailing jelly to a tree,” said Romney campaign political director Rich Beeson on Fox News Sunday.
- . . . Thanks for that perfect mental picture.
- . . . They stick like glue to network news correspondents who pride themselves in the latest tallies for their prognostications.
- . . . Get out and talk to somebody to see what the trends are and get your face out of the books.
- ASKING. “Will all the clatter chatter be over by Wednesday?
- . . . Doubt that. Then it’ll be time to talk 2016.
- Katie Perry wore a skin-tight, blue, latex-looking dress with Obama’s “Forward”slogan on it while she was singing somewhere last week.
- . . . Not sure if the Forward had a “.” after it or a !
- . . . She wore a white dress somewhere else.
- . . . Obama’s got the celebrities.
- . . . Romney’s got Meatloaf and Clint Eastwood and Lindsay Lohan.
- . . . David Axelrod, Obama’s campaign senior strategist, said he’d shave the mustache he’s had for 40 years if Romney wins Minnesota, Michigan or Pennsylvania.
- . . . But he told Chris Wallace on Fox News Channel: “The next time we see each other . . . I guarantee that mustache will be right where it is today.”
- . . . “Shave and a haircut, two bits.”
- Somebody said of Obama and Romney: “Neither one’s going down easy.”
- . . . “Easy like Sunday morning.” (The Commodores (Lionel Richie), on Motown Records, 1977.
- INCIDENTALLY. “Motown The Musical” is coming to Broadway in April, based on legendary record label founder Berry Gordy’s life and book, “To Be Loved: The Music, the Magic, the Memories of Motown.”
- . . . April 14 at the Lunt-Fontaine Theatre.
- The preview video ad says “Get Ready.” (The Temptations, 1966, on Gordy Records).
- . . . It looks like it’s gonna be good.
- “’Today’s’ weather is powered by ‘Windows 8’,” said the morning show’s announcer last week in tandem with the launch of the new computer operating system.
- . . . Microsoft’s also done a ‘Windows 8’ promo for NBC with a new version of “Express Yourself,” the song often heard in many commercials – not Madonna’s -- (including Nestle’s Coffee-mate) and originally done by Charlie Wright & the Watts 103rd Rhythm Band (Warner Bros. Records, 1970).
- . . . “The election is less than 140 hours away,” said Lynn Berry on MSNBC’s early morning news show, “First Look” last Wednesday.
- . . . “140 hours away”? Who came up with that brilliant way of expressing the countdown?
- . . . Actually it would have been 144 hours. Somebody figured wrong.
- . . . On the same day “Fox & Friends First” said six days.
- . . . That’s more like it.
- JUST ASKING. Where was Snooki (“Jersey Shore”) during the hurricane?
- . . . I just wanted to know if she and hubby Jionni and baby Lorenzo got caught up in it, were they okay?
- . . . Apparently she survived it and tweeted that she was “cleaning out my closet today to donate clothes and whatever I can to the victims affected by Sandy.”
- . . . She’s a good girl.
- LATER . . .
- . . . Monday morning she was seen on ABC’s GMA on the phone bank taking donations from people wanting to help victims of the hurricane as part of the network’s ‘Day of Giving.’
- . . . George Stephanopoulos announced that Barbara Walters, who was on the ‘bank,’ was giving $250,000!
- . . . Geesh, I guess she makes a lotta money.
- . . . Then Stephanopoulos said he was donating $50,000 – even though “I’m not in your league.”
- . . . Weatherman Sam Champion, who was standing nearby ready to deliver his latest forecast, looked stunned.
- . . . It seemed a bit braggadocious to be flexing your financial muscle like that, if you ask me.
- . . . Just donate. You don’t have to mention how much.
- . . . Quit grandstanding.
- FUNNY. The Frosted Mini-Wheats TV commercial.
- . . . An animated gang of cereal squares comes to life as four cute little fiber-filled biscuits with “skinny legs and all” (Joe Tex, 1967, on Dial Records) sing “99 bushels of wheat on the farm” while they bob up and down on the steering wheel while driving ‘Farmer John’s’ pickup truck on a country road past the wheat fields.
- . . . They look SpongeBob SquarePants-ish.
- . . . “Yep, there’s eight filling layers of fiber in those fun little biscuits so they stick with ya all morning long,” says the announcer.
- . . . Then the commercial cuts back to the breakfast squares, now singing “45 bushels of wheat on the wall . . .” with one of ‘em dancing on the friendly farmer’s shoulder.
- . . . “A big breakfast from a little biscuit,” tags the announcer.
- WONDERING. How did those TV weather people and their camera crews covering Hurricane Sandy braving the elements of wind and rain and standing in waist-high floodwaters not get electrocuted?
- . . . Don’t those microphones run on some kind of electricity? Isn’t the satellite truck near some kind of power?
- . . . How come they’re all not fried to a crisp?
- THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN.
- . . . They didn’t like the redesigned USA Today.
- . . . Management cracked under the pressure.
- . . . “We’ve darkened and enlarged the typeface throughout the paper,” responded Editor in Chief David Callaway in a front page mea culpa.
- . . . Good, it was unreadable, the print microscopic. You had to squint to see it.
- . . . And they gave the weather map more color and put the crossword puzzle back where it was.
- . . . Who comes up with these bright ideas?
- . . . Oh . . . and the new logo still sucks.
- “IT’S GONNA BE A LONG NIGHT.”
- . . . That’s what George Stephanopoulos predicted on “Good Morning Americs” Sunday about Tuesday’s election.
- . . . So I guess that means the race is gonna be tight.
- . . . Don’t make it too long. I have to get up early.
- . . . UH . . . “Early in the Morning” – The Rinky Dinks (lead singer, Bobby Darin). 1958, on Atco Records.
